What it’s for

Example settings for drums, lead vocals and pads.

A short room on the drums

Use a short Room setting on the drum bus to add ambience. Start with a low Mix and compare with the dry kit.

The controls

Planned controls and suggested settings for a vocal plate reverb.

Left knob

Pre-delay

The delay between the dry sound and the start of the reverb. Increase it to separate words or drum transients from the reverb tail.

Start at60 ms

Centre knob

Decay

How long the reverb continues after the sound stops. Shorten it if tails overlap the next phrase or obscure other parts.

Start at1.6 s

Right knob

Mix

The balance between the dry sound and the reverb. On an insert, a little goes a long way. On an effects send, turn it all the way to wet and set the amount with the send level instead.

Start at15%

Left menu

Space

Room, Plate or Hall. Room is small and close, for drums and anything that should sound like one take. Plate is smooth and dense, the classic choice for vocals and snare. Hall is big and slow to build, for pads, strings and ballads.

Middle menu

Tone

Controls the tone of the reverb tail. Warm reduces high frequencies, which can help with bright vocals and cymbals.

Width

How far the tail spreads across the stereo field. Wide wraps it around the mix. Narrower keeps it nearer the centre, which helps in a busy arrangement where the sides are already full.

Reverb tips

Check the reverb in the full mix, especially between phrases.

Time the tail
Loop a bar and adjust Decay so the tail fades before the next snare hit. This reduces the overlap between hits.
Pre-delay first
If a vocal sounds pushed to the back, add Pre‑delay before you turn Mix down. Somewhere around 40 to 80 ms, the words step forward and the space stays.
Mute to check
Set Mix where you’d miss the reverb if it were gone, not where you can clearly hear it. Bypass it for a moment: if the track shrinks and goes dry, it’s doing its job.
